Set the cache to 0 bytes. (or set it very low, like 300MBs)

 

Aside from that, the cache tries to keep frequently used data cached locally, to increase the speed of the drive (eg, decrease access time).  Things like the directory lists and NTFS data are cached locally, and absolutely help with performance (especially for enumerating directories.

Welcome! :)

 

If you have issues with it, you can detach the drive and re-attach it to set a different cache size.  If you find a size that you feel is perfect, let me know. (for reference)

 

I will do some testing with cache sizes and let you know =)
