Pool Organization stuck at 50%

DriveDuck

Question

After a system restart, the Pool Organization has been stuck at the middle for about 24hrs now. The drives statistic shows all the colors except for one drive in the pool that remains completely grey.

Manually restarting the collection goes very quickly to the same state and remains stuck.

What OS are you using?

What version of StableBit DrivePool are you using?

Is it measuring all of the disks properly?
If not, this is likely what is causing the pool origination issues.
In this case, please download the 2.2.0.659 beta build from here:

http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolWindows/beta/download/

This build may outright fix the measuring issue (which you seem to indicate is happening), and that should resolve the organization issue.

If not, let me know, and could you grab a screen capture of the UI?
If you don't want to post it publically, then go to "https://stablebit.com/Contact"and post it there.

Could you run "dpcmd check-pool-fileparts P:\ 2 > status.log", and upload that us (using the "https://stablebit.com/Contact"form)?

And could you enable file system logging, and remeasure the pool?

http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_2.x_Log_Collection

When it stops, disable the logging, and upload the files.

And yes, if the data on the drive shows up as grey ("Other"), then it's likely not finishing measuring the pool, and is erroring out somewhere.

If you haven't running a file system check of the pooled disks, may help resolve the issue.

Ran the log and found several discrepancies in the duplication. Folders with 2x duplication had non duplication?! Some other folders went up to 6x duplication. There is another thread here about changing duplication factors that happened to others.

I removed the drive with the grey stats from the pool and removed the entire duplication from the pool. Now the pool organization went through and the balancing is happening. I now have to establish duplication for the selected folders again. I wish this would be a bit more reliable.

Before you panic here, the folders themselves may (will) not match the duplication settings.  It's the files that are important, specifically. As long as those are properly duplicated, it doesn't matter if you have 1 copy for an empty folder or 50.

And this is something that we do want to significantly improve in the future. How all of this is handled, but it's going to be a significant overhaul.
