Scanner ignoring maximum temperature setting, WHS2011

jrronimo

Question

Hello,

I (finally) updated to the 2.5 release of DriverScanner and I'm suddenly getting a lot of e-mails about drive temperature:

WDC WD10EZEX-08M2NA0 ATA Device - 89.6˚F (Maximum: 32˚F)

I looked in the settings, but it still says the maximum temperature is 112°F. Worse, it seems to be throttling my drives to the point of my server being unusable.

Did I screw up the install somehow? It's unusable in its current state.

Thanks!

Nope, you didn't screw anything up.

This seems to be a common issue with WD drives.

To fix the issue, open up the StableBit Scanner UI. Click on the Settings button in the toolbar and select Scanner Settings. Enable the Show advanced settings and information option, and hit "OK". You will only need to do this once, from now on, it will always display this option.

Click on Settings, and select the new Advanced Settings and information option. Open the Configuration Properties tab. You will find a list of all the settings here, organized into section.  Find the "SMART" section, and check the "NoWmi" option (this may cause issues with SMART data, so keep an eye out).

Reboot the system (or restart the "StableBit Scanner Service").

Hopefully, after doing this, you should no longer see the issue.
