  1. I recently added 2 8TB HHDs to my das that had a 5TB and 8TB drive already in it. I've used DrivePool on another machine but not this one. I added all 4 HHDs to a new pool and moved the old data to the hidden "PoolPart" folders. The problem now is that the balancer won't pick up those "other" files and redistribute them amongst the new drives. How can I get this is data to be apart of the new pool?
  2. Version: 2.2.0.651 Beta OS: Windows 10 x64 Background: Very interested in purchasing DrivePool, but have some latent issues that I would like to get resolved before taking the dive. All drives were added to the pool at the same time. Issues Data added to pool isn't properly spread across drives. The only drives being utilized are my brand new drives. SSD Optimizer plugin isn't being utilized. Attempted Solutions SSD OptimizerEnabled "balance immediately" and disabled hour limitation Automatic Balancing below 100% Checked the appropriate settings Pool SpreadEnsured the non-SSD drive is healthy and the appropriate settings are set
  3. EDIT: Should make out I am pretty pleased with DrivePool but no software is perfect!! The "Other" category. I saw a nice post explaining how it's all the odds and ends etc but each of my HDDs seems to have 500Mb or more of this. Does DP do any cleaning of this junk? Does it also check or recreate missing Recycle bins? I am thinking that if it does then I might delete these and see if the recreated ones are less space used? It just seems that any good program should be as clean and tidy as it can be!!! DP doesn't seem to respect its own placement rules. I have a "scratch" HDD for most usage. But I see DP is doing downloads and other intensive actions on other HDDs not in the rules. DP also seems to create files on drives that the file placement rules say NO to... but with empty directories. I have manually remove such directories from all HDDs in the pool but they keep re-appearing. You don't see them of course as they are inside the hidden folders on each HDD but why create something that isn't needed? Also makes it harder to find where files physically are if you need to sort out a mess later. Could DP not have functionality to delete such empty directories it creates. Not directories that have been user created though as some people might need empty dirs or some programs look for them to store save files in. Q: Does DP have a universal recycle? If a network access user deletes a file from the pool is it totally gone or could it be moved to a temporary Bin that could either be manually or automatically/regularly emptied? Useful if your family accidentally hit Delete on that 10Tb "Videos" directory!!!!??? One nice feature on Flexraid (included in its Pool functionality) is the ability to mark the directory date with the date of the latest file created within it. Might not seem useful but it can be handy to be able to sort directories by file accessed date (your most active directories can be on top of list). Worth "borrowing"?
  4. Hi, running Drivepool and Scanner on Windows 2012R2 with 4 * 3TB drives. Added the disks to a pool and set for (2 *) duplication. There is currently no other data stored on any of the disks. I was adding VHDX files to my Virtual Machines yesterday, storing them on the Drivepool drive, and noticed that as I was adding them the value of “Other” was going up under the Drivepool interface. Looking in My Computer I have used about 0.4 TB of space on each of the disks, so in total 1.60TB of data. Looking at the Pool disk in My computer shows I have about 1.59 TB of data on it (so those 2 figures just about match). Also a DIR /s *.* of the Drivepool drive shows a total of 812GB if data, so ½ of what’s shows above, so that all matches. However looking in the Drivepool interface, I see that it says: Duplicated 1.33TB Other 279GB (I have run Re-measure a few times to be sure) which in total equals 1.6TB. I understand that “Other” includes non pooled data on the disk (which I have none of), and stuff such as metadata and “slack space”, but 279GB is quite a high figure, and quite close to the total size of the VHD(X) files on the Drivepool at about 234GB. I think the VHD(X) files are however being duplicated, as I have a VMBackup folder with 4 VHDX files in it, and under the pool folder on E: & F: I can see 2 of the files on each of the disks, and under the pool folder on G: & H: I can see the other 2 files. So it seems they are being duplicated, but showing up in the interface as Other. Any thoughts.
