  1. I bought the 10-bay myself a few months back and I would say it depends on the USB device your server has.  I have 2 desktops on a custom and the other a dell and the USB c on the dell i got slow speeds with the drive and it was not a native usb c.  On my custom the usb c is on the board itself and I have not see any problems BUT I also have not fully filled the 10 bays on the custom desktop but did on the dell.  Plan on making a thread now of my hardware has I need to look into soothing for more space.

The new build, is that an OS-reinstall or a new machine? And the "new drives", are they really new or just Pooled HDDs transferred from one system to the other.

    I'll give a few pointers:
    1. De-activate your license on the current machine. Do write down the license code somewhere, you'll need it on the new machine.
    2. Settings are stored in the Pool itself and DP on another machine will pick them up once it finds the Pooled HDDs. It should be easy BUT:
    3. If you use a balancer add-in that is not installed by default then I would first build the machine while not connecting the Pooled HDDs. Install DP, activate and then install the add-in(s). Only then (and a reboot first makes sense to me) connect the Pooled HDDs.

You should be good to go.

Okay I will give this a go!  Now what if I can not de-activate my current key...as my PC crashed.

Do you have scanner as well?

Yes i do.  I do have one of them with a bad sector but idk if it would cause this. Also i notice each drive has a different size to them they are all 6TB drives...

Are your balancers all at default settings? I wondr why you have that red arrow for disk 2 / I:. What happens if you force a rebalance?

Yes they are defaults never changed them.  Yeah i saw that too IDK why the red is there

  5. I am not using duplication.

I have an external drive that i am going to copy the files to then remove the bad drive from the pool and try to add the external drive to the pool...hoping it will be like nothing ever happen.

The drive is just able failing with damaged sectors so i might not be able to copy everything but most i should be able too.

    Have you seen this page?

https://stablebit.com/Support/DrivePool/2.X/Manual?Section=Removing a Drive from the Pool

Scroll down a little for a section on 'forced drive removal'. In this case I think you'll need to check which files - if any - Drivepool managed to save / move. If you're using file duplication, I'd expect the files still to be present on the other drive(s) in your Pool.

For the damaged, removed drive, in the past I've put drives into a USB enclosure or one of those USB docks, attached to a different computer to see what can be recovered.

    Good luck!

So if i did a force remove and the files left on the disk...would i be able to take those files and put them on a new drive and re add it to the pool like nothing happen? Trying not to lose the files.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to remove the drive.

As for CCleaner, nice.  Though, a full (non-quick) format would work here, as well.

Yeah took me a bit to be able to remove the drive files keep being used closed out of everything and AV and i was able to remove it.  Drive has been wiped and now running test should see in the AM and then going to re-add it to the pool.  Love all these software's! Worth every penny!

Yup, I believe you, I've ... had it happen myself.  It's ... annoying.

You could do that. As long as everything is duplicated

You could remove it from the pool first, as well, and then format it.

Either option would work. But removing it works better.

Removing it will just move all data on that drive to a new one?  I don't have duplicate enable right now.

You should only get one notification, it's ... a bug that is causing this behavior.

Try resetting the settings, as it may fix it.

If all you're seeing is the "Current Pending Sector count" value, and no problems during the surface scan and no other SMART warnings (namely "Uncorrectable Sector Count"), then you may be fine.

As for fixing it ... write to the sector. But since there isn't a good way to force this, a full format would work.

But in this case, I'd recommend just letting it sit, until something changes.

Here is a photo of my trash from my email lol also was getting texts like crazy too!

Now if I was to enable folder duplicate would I be able to just reformat the drive without losing data.

  10. Scanner told me i have a 1 bad sector count.  Any way for the software to repair it?

Also i am using 2.5.2.3178 and the Notifications enable i keep getting text and emails none stop till i ignored the alert.  I love getting the alerts but maybe adding a setting to only send a few instead of ALL the time or maybe set it by hours or days...

    I think you mean 3130 ;)

But this isn't a code change, actually.  It's a recompile with updated "CoveLib" files (shared code), so there isn't really a change.

(I asked about this, actually, since i wasn't sure)

Lol yes 3130. Ok just wanted to make sure!  Both updated and working great!  Thank you! BTW love the software works great!

I moved this to the DrivePool general forum, so no worries. :)

That said, the stable release versions should be fine.
however, I would personally recommend using the public beta of StableBit DrivePool (2.2.0.881), and the 2.5.2.3129 build of StableBit Scanner.

Just download and update right should have no problems?

This is the CloudDrive forum, just fyi. But, setting that aside, I'm not entirely sure how to answer your question. You are using the up-to-date stable versions of both of those products. There has been a significant amount of development, particularly for DrivePool, in the most recent BETA releases. But, as with all BETA software, you'll have to do your own risk assessment to decide if you want to accept the risk and responsibility of using pre-release versions.

I use the beta versions of all three products, and I don't have any issues. But your mileage, of course, may vary.

You can find the BETAs and their associated changelogs here:

    http://dl.covecube.com/ScannerWindows/beta/download/

    http://dl.covecube.com/CloudDriveWindows/beta/download/

    http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolWindows/beta/download/

    Hope that helps.

Thanks i will check them out and yes i notice i posted this in the wrong thread...all i saw was General lol my bad!

  14. So right now i have it setup as a pool.

    Got about 21.8TB of space.

Have no enabled File Duplication yet.  Running 2.1.1.561.

So far everything is running great with the new case and new added stuff i have put in this system.  Just wanted to know if there was a way to hide the drives that are in the pool in the My Computer area?

Also am i enabling Pool File or Folder Duplication?

  15. So I got everything and I have it all setup and ready to go. Now I just need to install the OS and go from there.

So I am not sure if this will make a big difference but let me know.

I am using 2 6TB red drives from the WDC duo and 2 new ones I bought that are WDC red pro. The ones from the duo have a smaller cache size then the new pros would this matter when I put them in the pool?

Also does the pool work well with VM?

  16. Rackmount is crazy expensive though.  Even the cheap stuff (Norco) is pretty pricey. And the good stuff (like Supermicro) ... is even more expensive, even used.

    And the hardware looks good!

And yeah, waiting sucks!  It's literally the worst! :)

that depends on what you want. We don't actually support "RAID" configurations. It's all file based mirroring.

Though, my recommendation would be to add all of the disks to the pool, and then enable "Pool File Duplication". That means that everything gets mirrored (close to a "RAID 10" array).

This way, if a drive fails, the data will reside on another disk.  Just replace the failed drive, add it to the pool and let it do its thing. :)

So with Pool file enabled how much space will i have with 4x6TB drives? the full 24TB or little less?
