  1. I don't believe there is currently. However, I've flagged this for alex to review and fix: https://stablebit.com/Admin/IssueAnalysis/5246
  2. Given that your HDD can only access data about 120MB/s (average).... and that 4TB is ... well, 4 million MBs... that's roughly 9 hours and 15 minutes to scan a 4TB disk. So that seems right. And as Umfriend has said, StableBit Scanner is good about throttling the scans based on usage, to prevent bottle-necking or impacting the performance. As for the "timeout".... it does that. If you open up the volume map, (click on the "+" next to the disk), it marks each range with when it was last scanned. It then uses THAT information to determine when to scan each SECTION of the disk. Not the whole disk, but section. That means if the scan got stopped part way because of activity and didn't start till the next day... those two sections will have different deadlines. And that also applies to disks, as well. Also, StableBit Scanner can and usually does scan multiple disks at the same time. By default, it scans one disk per controller, but you can disable that functionality in the Scanner settings. That *may* speed up the scan though, or it may bottleneck the controller...
  3. Well, I've flagged the request for alex (if it's again, that's fine) https://stablebit.com/Admin/IssueAnalysis/5243 And I was talking with Alex about it again. I do try to keep pushing for it, because it is a great idea. Hopefully, Alex will decide to whip something up.
  4. yeah, unfortunately, sometimes manually editing the config file can be problematic. And I'm glad that the file I posted works great for you. As for telling if it worked or not, select one of the drives and click on the "S.M.A.R.T. details" link at the bottom. If it shows a list of information, you are good.
  5. ..... I run the surface scan every 7 days..... personally.. @dbailey, that's a very good suggestion and a good link. And if you don't mind, what did you not like about the WHS Integrity Checker add-in? @everyone: Backups. If you know me from WGS/HSS, then you've probably heard me say it before, but it's always worth repeating: There is no such thing as too many backups. If the data is important, you should have it stored in multiple mediums, and multiple locations. The HSS guys suggest a "3-2-1" backup strategy, in fact. 3 Backup copies of anything you want to keep. 2 different storage media. 1 offsite storage site. This helps prevent any significant data from being lost or corrupted.
  6. Umfriend is correct here. StableBit DrivePool does not use Parity at all. We use "duplication", meaning that we maintain copies of the files on different disks. THe advantage this has over RAID or other solutions is that StableBit DrivePool is a file based solution, and the files can be recovered without having the reinstall the software, and can be recovered using conventional Data Recovery tools. The downside is, yes that the Pool uses up more space as compared to other solutions. And as Umfriend has said, you'd want 3x duplication. That means that the files are on 3 disks at any one time, so they should survive failure of up to two disks. (and will partially survive more depending on how the files are laid out). Though, StableBit DrivePool 1.X (the WHS2011 version) has a command line utility that lets you set the duplication to higher than 2x, but the GUI (dashboard) does not. Also, if you're worried about drive failure, then getting StableBit Scanner along with StableBit DrivePool would be a good idea too. The reason being that StableBit DrivePool will read the information from StableBit Scanner. And will evacuate a drive that Scanner marks as "damaged" (that it finds bad/unreadable sectors). Also, you can configure it to do the same with SMART errors, and to avoid putting data on drives that have exceeded their manufacturer rated max temperature.
  7. If that's the case, and you have StableBit Scanner installed, I would recommend forcing it to scan the disks (click on the "+" next to the disk, and find the button with the green circle and the yellow circular arrow in it, and click that. Then select "mark all readable as unchecked") And yeah, I know that reproducing the issue may be a problem. As I said, it's hard to troubleshoot after the fact. Though, during the last week, was there any unexpected reboots or BSODs, or other disks issues?
  8. Well, I believe that we are planning on adding the standard warranty period to the disk details. Not quite the same as what you want... but better, IMO. This is because the warranty period is based on manufacturing time and not when you bought it. You mean like the disk details page, but for ALL the disks in the system?
  9. Well, all the balancing and duplication is handled by the StableBit DrivePool service. You could stop the service, to prevent files from being moved around. However, you could change the balancer settings to only run at a certain time of day (which may not be a bad idea, instead). Additionally, if you have a large enough backup drive, you should be able to use the Server Backup option. The main issue is that it cannot backup volumes larger than 2TBs. However, if you're backing up multiple 1TB drives, you should be fine. Also, as for "constant state of flux," once the pool has duplicated and balanced the data, even adding a lot to it shouldn't significantly move data around.
  10. You can definitely do that. In fact that's the recommended way if this is a fresh system. (no previous data). If you have shares on the server already, we have a utility to .... well, do that for you as the dashboard may have issues moving the folders over. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Utilities Download the "WSS Troubleshooter" and run the "Restore DrivePool Shares (OS Reinstall)". Ignore the "reinstall" part, as it would work for a "fresh" system as well.
  11. Yeah, that's the setting. It's the only thing you need to change. Once you have, restart the service, and it should start grabbing all the SMART data. That or use this file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0krodbweqz1rrc4/Scanner.Service.exe.config That's taken from my personal system (when I was using the HighPoint still) and will work.
  12. In theory, yes, it could, but it's very very very unlikely. We do a LOT to make sure that data is written correctly, and in sync between disks, to prevent this from happening. Specifically, any "IO" sent to the pool is redirected to the disks in the pool instead. So like I said, it is *possible*.... The problem is that it's very hard to tell after the fact. If you're able to reliably reproduce this issue, that would be one thing (and if so, please enable file system logging/tracing so we can capture the issue)... Also, if you access the file directly from the "PoolParts" folder, does it have the same corruption? If it doesn't, and it is corrupted only when accessing it from the pool, and especially if duplication is enabled, then the pool could be at fault. Also, is this over the network or locally?
  13. Well, the only thing I didn't do from that tutorial is flash the management rom. But to be honest, I was genuinely surprised by the fact that I didn't need to use the UnsafeDirectIo option. But I was using a HighPoint RocketRAID card before, which did require it. And it ran fine, with no issues, no instability of the system or controller. So there really shouldn't be an issue.
  14. You are very welcome. And ... pretty much never. I work from home, so I have plenty of free time. I also have tapatalk installed on my phone, so I get notifications about new posts. And I'm glad to hear that you're loving both of our products! And there is a reason there is pretty much no negative comments: we try to bend over backwards to help anyone having an issue with our software. That, and personally, I genuinely like helping people out with their issues.
  15. By default, the VSS service takes two snapshots of the volumes every day. Specifically, for use with the "Previous Versions" feature. However, the DrivePool volume doesn't support VSS, and as such will fail. I would recommend disabling it for the DrivePool volume. Specifically, DISABLE and not delete, because I believe the system may automatically recreate this task. I'm not 100% sure about it, but it would be simpler to disable it. As for any other volumes not running the task... it's because they haven't been configured for it. And that's perfectly fine.
  16. There should be a "+" button on the right side of the drop down list. Click on that and it will let you type in a new name for the case.
  17. I'm glad that our products, well have done what they're designed to. And I'm glad that you are very happy with them. And I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the drives RMAed. Though, since this is a 3TB drive, SpinRite may not work on it. However, the surface scan in StableBit Scanner should be able to pick up any problem sectors anyways. And there other tools, such as mHDD that may work too.
  18. I'm glad that you love the product! And have you checked out StableBit Scanner yet? ... You may have much better luck with that, as well.
  19. Then that would be why, actually. Specifically, when TeraCopy encounters a duplicate folder or file, it appends _2 to the file name, to avoid merging/overwriting. And as you can probably guess, I've ran into this issue as well. You can rename the folders and remove the "_2" from the folder, and it should prompt you to merge the folders.
  20. As one that's used the Server Backup a few times, it's almost as awesome as WHS's (or 2012(R2) Essentials') Client restore feature. Something else that may work, run "chkdsk c: /r" And run "sfc /scannow". (though be aware that on 2012 Essentials, that it can "break" the website... but that's easily fixed)
  21. You're just not having any luck. Could you try uninstalling the old version, rebooting, then installing the new version. (yes the DrivePool volume will disappear, but it should reappear, once DrivePool is reinstalled). If that doesn't work, then try this: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q3017479
  22. By chance, did you use Teracopy to migrate your data?
  23. Thank you very much for the kind words! And as for Scanner reading the SMART data... Well, I know that a number of tools (such as CPUID's Hardware Monitor) only read from "ATA" devices. It doesn't read for "SCSI" devices at all, which means that it doesn't read for pretty much any add-in cards, or some secondary onboard chipsets. And yeah, I agree, that's frustrating. And we're glad that you appreciate all the detailed information that we gather and display about the drives in the system. And IIRC, we plan on adding some more to that soon. Also, something else that you may like: Try right clicking on the column headers in StableBit Scanner. You can add a lot more info the the main screen as well. I personally like adding the performance, disk queue and temp columns as well. And you can sort by controller, or by "case" (so you can group your drives, based on their location).
  24. Or a disk error that corrupted the file, or .... Who knows. But I'm glad that I was able to at least point you in the right direction here. And yeah, one thing at a time is a good idea. Especially for updates. But either way, glad that everything is working again.
  25. Okay, I'm glad to hear that. ANd yeah, the log indicates the same thing that the error above was giving. And in theory, SP2 includes the "Kernal Mode Driver Framework" for the system. Though I suspect that one of the updates fixed an issue with it. You can always verify that by looking at the update history, and looking at what the updates AFTER SP2 was installed contain (any "wdf" files that are updated, specifically) Either way, I'm glad to hear that it does seem to work properly now! And I'd recommend making a backup of the system disk, just in case (Install the "Windows Server Backup" role, at least).
