  1. ..not seeing the effect atm, but it was there even two reboots after I added the last drive to the system...I'll keep watch. Reading through the other docs you linked above doesn't make me feel good using windows at all ....glad that this is not my "real" NAS but only for archiving backups
  2. ...oups!...seems like I did end that session before upload was finished..sorry for that...have a look now, please.
  3. ...I don't think there should be an issue with kodi and drivepool...I tested it for some time but then took the route to only use the pool over SMB network shares. As for the SAS2LP-MV8...this should work, when it runs fine under WIndows (so rather a driver thing). However, this card should work with unraid, of course...are you aware of this thread? -> http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=29052.0...did you try and reflash the BIOS of that card?
  4. ...I created a dump from that instance still running where I added those new drives. Also I removed the older, smaller drives, so the pool consists of 3x8TB drives for now....1 drive showing the right temp of 43C, whilst the others (reported by Scanner with 44C and 43C) show in DrivePool UI with 28C and 25C. ...you might be right, regarding WMI...the smaller drives were successfully removed and temps showing fine...however, the mouseover showed them still with 1.6TB in use, but only until I closed and reopened the UI. I suspect it is the comms between Service-Process and UI. ....uploading the dump now
  5. FWIW...this behavior seems to be observable after having added a new drive to the pool and using the pool without a system reboot. I just added another 3 drives and the UI shows the odd wrong temps only for these newly added... the drives added before (now with a reboot in between) stay consistent with Scanner UI
  6. ...I just came accross a strange effect in DrivePool UI. I just had one older 2TB drive started dying on me in my pool and decided to do some upgrades before more of that *hit is going to happen... This included employing Stablebit Scanner (running the Trial Licences atm) I am now in the process of swapping drives in and out, moving to fewer and larger drives (going to migrate to a bunch of 8TB SMR disks and SSD optimizer). During the current drive remove run, Scanner UI reports the drive temps consistently fine while in DrivePool UI, I see the temps (currently of one particular drive) "flip"/change after a while. Meaning Scanner reports temp for that drive as 42C...Drivepool UI, when brought up, also starts to report 42C but "flips" to 24C after approx 60secs time Any Ideas what is going on? BTW: The drive in question is a new Seagate 8TB Archive v2...all drives are on a LSI 2008 and I am *not* doing hotswap. Drivepool V2.1.1.561 - Scanner V2.5.1.3062 - Win8.1Pro 64bit
  7. Well, I see the same...while removing a disk: The GUI reports the activity that writes the data to the new disk(s)...V2.1.1.561 Win8.1P-64bit

    File Size Limit?

...this is the SB Drivepool section of the forum, not Clouddrive ;-) Browsing a bit over there indicates that there are quite a lot of problems with Amazon Cloud Drive as a Provider...
  9. +1 IMHO dual-Link is mainly for creating redundant paths, not link aggregation. I did run a RES2CV240 with a M1015 (flashed to HBA, 9211-8i)) and connected as dual link ...it works, but there is no benefit is speed when using spinning disks, as Drashna already pointed out the reasons....I did not have the resources to test with SSDs at that time. The dual-link config would be to run two HBAs for redundancy...
  10. ...pffff....never thought of that...well, I'd keep the expander and go for another HBA then ...glad you at least seem to habe identified the cause of your problems.
  11. Fedora and CentOS are both free. Have a look here: https://getfedora.org/de_CH/workstation/download/ and here https://www.centos.org/download/ or try Ubuntu, here http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop I'd recmmend the workstation versions, as these will start up with a full GUI. I think the disks will not get mounted automatically, so In order to see if the disks are there, you should be able to locate (or install - don't worry the live ISO will run in RAM only and not destroy your OS unless you choose to install it; adding packages/apps will also go into the ramdisk) an app called "disk-manager". It is somewhere hidden in the system-admin/settings menu trees. The Live-ISO will normally run under a full Admin User. Be aware, that once the disks are mounted, you can access them fully, meaning you are able to access (and delete) stuff. Also, in the disk-manager, you have full management rights...you are able to alter partitions and the like...you have been warned ;-)
  12. besides that, I am out of my witts, sorry. You could ask the german speaking Pros here, in case this is not drivepool related (which is what i suspect): http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f242/.
  13. it should work with both component types, backplanes and enclosures...AFAIU an enclosure might offer GPIO via the sideband but IMHO that is not required in order to work. The cables you use do look appropriate to me. Since you state all drives are found during boot and listed in the controller bios, what about OS drivers? Obviously, the expander does not need a driver on its own, but maybe another version might be better? Since this is about usage with drivepool, each disk is self contained on its own (no stripes). That means, you could test with booting a linux live ISO and see, if this will find your disks..I suggest the latest CentOS or Fedora, as these have a lot more support for professional/server equipment enabled in the LIve-ISOs.
  14. IMHO you won't see the expander FW during boot or BIOS entry, but I don't know about your model exactly...even when seated in the PCIe, it will just draw power from it. The latest FW for your expander is here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24789/RAID-Expander-RES3FV288-RES3TV360-Firmware What cables are you using and ...silly question maybe, but ... does your System provide enough power..the expander will draw 1.4A on 12V extra ....if your PSU is on an edge already, the thing may fail silently.
  15. ...expanders have a firmware, too. Did you check that with intel? I had problems with my res2cv240 when using it with SATA drives...a firmware update from intel fixed it. Edit: - page 12 in this doc says, that port G is the wide port to connect to the HBA...try that first. -> http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/res3fv288/sb/res3fv288_ug.pdf - are you powering the expander via the PCIe slot?...try another.
  16. ..thanks for the response. I am running Win8.1pro. The version I am on is "StableBit.CloudDrive_1.0.0.283_x64_BETA" ...at least that is what the installer file/exe says....I did remove the app after that mess. I'll do the upload....
  17. ....something got messed up. Drivepool reported some drives (cloud drives missing), while the Pool, created from the raw drives (where also the cloud drives were created on locally) reported all drives fine. Also clouddrive did report some cloud drives as attached and some as non existant. ....I destroyed all cloud drives and pools No I am still seeing some CloudPart_xxxxx Folders on my C/System-Drive that I've did not put there. Even worse, I cannot delete these using the explorer...when I try to open these, windows reports them as damaged :-( This is exactly the reason why I don't do any complex things with windoze ... I know Clouddrive is beta, but I really don't like being not in control of my data or my system.
  18. thanks for taking this back to Alex. I now tried the setup the other way around: - creating an encrypted clouddrive on one local disk each - then pool the cloud-drives - then enable duplication on some folders. ...this basically works, but I am not able to create a cloud-drive with the real size of he full local disk. These disks are 2TB greens....but their net value/space is 1.82TB...I can only select to create 1TB or 2TB cloud disks, where the 2TB would be too much, wouldn't it. How can I manage my 2TB cloud drives from "overfilling" when the data reaches the physical limit of the real 2TB (1.82TB net) disks? TIA, Fred
  19. OK, finally got to test around a bit. I recently upgraded my ZFS NAS and now got 7x2TB greens left...I did put these in my Win8.1pro desktop (which is my old server 32GB RAM, L3426Xeon (4C8T, no AES-NI)). ...I then created a pool out of these old disks, using DrivePool. Then, I created a 1TB encypted cloud-drive on that pool, using the local provider, using default settings otherwise - although local cache was set to zero (as default), CloudDrive created a Cache-Dir on one of my pool-disks :-( WOT? - I copied over some larger movie files (from my local, main disk, which is a SSD +200MB/sec read) to the pool and reached 98MB/Sec -> good, as this is the expected speed of one green disk - then I copied the same files over to the encrypted cloud drive -> 78MB/sec write -> cool, as my CPU does not have AES-NI support. I certainly can live with that performance. (I did set IO-Performance to 4 threads each in cloud drive. maybe there is a more optimal setting for non-AES-NI CPUs?) Now, I gather in order to be able to enable duplication for some folders on my encrypted disk,... I should have started the other way round, by creating an encrypted disk out of each 2TB green, and then pool these "cloud-disks" together? But... What about the (unwanted) cache dir created by cloud-drive? I don't want it and don't have a disk to spare. Is there a way to match the full/total physical size of the local disk when creating the cloud disk? TIA, fred
  20. +1 ..and if your router is not GBit, get a GBit switch, not a hub....these start cheap and will not introduce any noticable lag: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100010066%20600015752
  21. Yes, if the controller is advertised as a HBA, you should find the IT/IR firmwares...a Raid Controller fom LSI should come with MegaRaid firmware. Actually the M1015 is a 9240-8i with a "crippled" MegaRAID firmware (no Raid levels 5, 50, a software key for these is sold separately by IBM)...but electrically it is the same. Also, if you buy, do so from a reputable source...there are a lot of fakes already out there. I remember the good old days, when the M1015 was shipped with every X-Server and then often just got pulled as enterprise customers wanted better RAIDs with BBU and such. ....these M1015 ended in the bay...remembering that I got 2x M1015 for 70USD total ;-) There is a good thread over in the servethehome site/forum, but I can't access it ATM... Edit: here it is: http://www.servethehome.com/ibm-serveraid-m1015-part-4/
  22. Just be aware that the stock M1015 does *not* come with IR or IT Firmware, it comes with a "true" RAID card firmware. Flashing it with the IT/IR firmware is a "cross flash"....there is a risk that you can produce a brick during that process. The M1015 is a true, low-end IBM Raid Controller, but technically identical to the 9210 HBA, only sold to OEMs, There is another HBA model, the 9211 and luckily its firmare is compatible with the 9210. You can force the 9211 Firmware to be flashed to the M1015, creating a 9210 (or 9211 respectively), hence. If you buy a M1015 from a dealer "at the bay", some do offer it cross flashed already. I own a couple, crossed flashed myself. Since this "trick" was made public, prices for the M1015 have risen a lot. If you want to play save, buy a "real" LSI HBA or a pre-cross flashed M1015. Note: once cross flashed, you can swap IR/IT firmware anytime, just like with a normal 9211 HBA, using the normal flash method advertised by LSI.
  23. ...the LSI208 are available since a long time.....they usually offer 6GB/s SAS/S-ATA links....you will never max-out these with a spinning disk, I am using a single M1015 (flashed to HBA) along with an intel res2cv240 (LSI2008 based) 24port expander in a norco4224-like case..not with DrivePool but as my ZFS based NAS. Doing a scrub, which means checking all data and checksums in the array, I still get 600+MB/sec accross (the array is fully encrypted btw, employing a mix of seagate and hitachi 3TB/7.2k disks). As long as your server is limited to 1 or up to 4x single GBit NICs, I would not worry about the speed of this "old" LSI 2008 cards....a single one, driving even 24 disks will max that out. The PCIe 2.0x8 cards might impose an electrical problem, but only if the next gen PCIe type slots are not downward compatible....but there are PCIe3.0 versions out there.
  24. +1 for the HBAs based on M1015...these are great. And you can grow later by adding an expander, instead more HBAs. But...what drive sizes do you employ at the moment? With drive capacity rising fast the money per TB ratio is falling. There is as well the solution to just replace drives with larger ones and even sell the used ones afterwards. Saving on the controller and the energy, too.
  25. ...sounds cool. However, my main usecase would be to create a fully encrypted '(local) Pool. Maybe there are plans for a "DrivePool plugin" with just the encryption feature
