  1. I have a USB3 4 Bay older Orico external bay works no issues but new once NS800U3 lists drives under name as JMicron Generic DISK0X USB Device each one starting at DISK00 to DISK07. All the smart Data seems fine including drive model number. Scanner V2.5.1.3062. I realise you can rename them manually but would be good if you could look into this.

Also if it interests anyone The enclosure runs a lot hotter after 30 min or minimal activity I get temp alerts.  Temperature runs at 46 Deg C compared to 37 Deg C compared to older enclosure for same model 8TB Seagate drive, I bumped the alerts up to 48 Deg. Not sure what the max recommended temp is but clearly these enclosures just are not very efficient cooling. It only has 5 drives out of 8 in so far. About half the volume of air coming out of rear compared to older 4 Bay Orico.

  2. Honestly, we have no idea.

What I do know is that the service has been less than reliable (may periods of "429" errors, outright outages, etc), and how Amazon handles issues and communication has been less than stellar. (both in our experience, and what we've seen in general).

We may not get the ax, but Amazon appears to have no desire to work with us, either. It's a lose-lose situation right now, and maybe (hopefully) that will change. if it does .... well, we'll re-evaluate at that time.

Well Amazon have killed unlimited now, I wonder if others will follow.

  3. Yeah I take your point you have to find 4 people who trust me or I trust and yeah as I don't run a business anymore and have lifetime chronic illness I don't have many real life friends and none interested in this.

So if you did get 5 users at $50 x5 you could have the unlimited option.

Would just $10 on one account and have multiple drives or would each user have to pay $10 per month using Google drive drive.

Would be a no brainer before I had to stop work at 33 years old and eventually shut down my business.

  4. My understanding to get unlimited account for Google drive option is only available to G Suite which requires a minimum of 5 paid accounts at $50 a year. You then have an option of $10 per month for unlimited drive space.

Given this I'm happy to supply a domain if I can get 4 or 5 other people to share expense of a 5 account would 30+ TB and grow over time

be reasonable use or does Google truely supply unlimited storage? Is Google drive very reliable? Can you have more than one drive per email account? Are there any other people here interested in joining up to share costs?

Anyone see problems with this plan?

Are there any other affordable unlimited or huge storage services that are reliable as clearly I ACD is not interested in this party party storage applications.

How safe would my data be, I want to put all my Plex video on plus data backup. Most storage would be for Plex.

    Thanks

  5. Christopher I recently had to try and find a drive with problems and was in format \Device\HarddiskVolume it was a lot of messing around using diskpart then I had to add drive letters to find out the drive eventually.  Can you add a column in Scanner that shows either the Label so you don't have to allocate a drive letter to every drive or can you get info for \Device\HarddiskVolume into scanner column. Currently it is not intuitive and difficult to find the drive with problems with Scanner from the event log.

    I had messages like

Volume \\?\Volume{2f02bdf1-0fa7-4adf-9bfd-2b630bfc0e39} (\Device\HarddiskVolume6) requires an Online Scan.  An Online Scan will automatically run as part of the next scheduled maintenance task.  Alternatively you may run "CHKDSK /SCAN" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:> -SCAN" locally or remotely via PowerShell.

It wasn't Disk 6 as the HarddiskVolume won't match because there are often more than one volume per drive like your C:\

I have found it is best with drives in a pool not to have drive letters to avoid mistakes inadvertently messing with DrivePool.

Maybe I am misunderstanding how to interpret the information and it is in Scanner.

  6. Fredrick, they are a very talented and smart group of programmers the problem seems that in summary that Amazon drive are isolated from the excellent Amazon S3 team and they keep Channing the rules. I think their idea of unlimited is different to ours. I don't believe the concept was well thought out and the team is not up to the task at Amazon drive. All other Amazon services I have touched are well recorded and professional. That's not what I see with the drive term. Find give friends and share a Google apps account and the unlimited data add-on. That's what I would do if I had 5 people who I knew who trusted me and would use the service. As true unlimited broadband is not common in Australia at high speeds is only stuff most people could dream of even if they had unlimited storage. I assume Google apps drive unlimited is reliable.

  7. Our TV is both MPEG2 and H264 as I understand it only the newest WTV container supports H264. I found someone today in Australia who is working on trying to get more reliable Guide Data so Will stick with Plex for a while, that has been enough of a learning curve. What is driving me crazy is thetvdb.com going down for the last month everytime I want to add new media. I would prefer not to even own a media computer but streaming services are still inadequate. Plex just fixed the Cricket EPG issue or Gracenote but Plex are claiming the win. It looks like Gracenote is using inadequate guide data for Australia.

  8. Thanks Christopher I spent a lot of time in last two months with Plex and brought a Plex pass but the EPG is not great yet! Doesn't support my regiion in Australia but I found a 95% accurate version but then sport like Cricket that is in 3 sessions in a day the guide will only recognise one session. I assume Emby only supports HD Homerun and not all the BDA PCI tuners I have either? I wonder where they get their guide data from Plex uses Gracenote. Just trying to get away from Windows Media Center and plex gave promise of using things like Android and Apple TV but our recordings are in MPEG interlaced and H264 interlaced and that is causing problems. I can't use MCEBuddy as it can't detect Codec and it won't process H264 correctly it pixelates or stutters but it does deinterlace. MPEG2 will convert fine and deinterlace. Apparently you can select based on channel. I have 5,000 WTV files I would love to convert and deinterlace but beyond my feeble mind. All the experts assume your an expert and I am not unfortunately.

Can you look at my request for assistance with extra storage in the Drivepool discussion I Posted and hour ago, I would appreciate your valuable knowledge.

    Cheers.

  9. For drivepool want more storage.

I have in my Windows 8.1 Windows Media Sever / Plex

    1 x SSD

    1 x Blu-ray

    4 x 6TB WD Red

    3 x 8TB Seagate Archive

    1 x 3 TB Hitachi

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme6/

    1 x Asmedia 1061 Controler Card

    3 x Tuner Cards

I need more storage SATA drives. I have spare random ones and plan  to buy some more WD Reds

What is good for external that will work reliably With DrivePool and Scanner.

I have had no luck with Scanner and External USB and getting any SMART and even tried Advanced settings in Scanner but had computer lock up. Cheap temporary no name USB bay keeps disconnecting every few weeks and I want it gone.

    Is eSata an option?

If suggesting other technology I will need hand holding as I don't understand SAS etc and don't have an enterprise budget but could spend up to AUD $500 or maybe more if robust.

    I am in Australia

This is all I could easily find that takes greater than 4 TB hard drives readily available.

This is the only Case that seemed to have eSata I could easily find but some say power supply unreliable

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/23687/hotway-h82-su3s2-8-bay-usb-3-0-non-raid-enclosure

I assume there would also be reliable enterprise second hand equipment based on some of the builds I see here on the forums.

    Thanks

  10. WMC says loss of signal or error. I've had the drive over 2 years and had intermittent issues I could never pin down. Sometimes a new power supply would fix reliability but I suspect this was main issue but time will tell. With the TV stations here selling of over half the spectrum for 4G services they re stacked the channels on less spectrum so we get lots of co channel interference and that was happening too and same symptoms. Living in rural Australia TV has always been an issue. Computer times never work as well as the ones in the TVs although I just brought a network tuner HD home run seems better but experimental with Plex DVR beta. Only tuners they supported. This year less reception problems but I continued have problems. I was oblivious to hard drive as I relied on scanner. Maybe your app could monitor critical event logs too and report suspicious activity, I would pay for an add on particularly if it worked had some English diagnostic or indicated how many events were normal. You go crazy if you try and fix all event logs most are just warnings.

  11. Out of warrant by 2 months. Turns out removing drive even though not used for direct recording has stopped a lot of pixelation in recordings I put down to reception problems. Event log says this has been going on for over 6 months but I had done a fresh install back then. I was even getting no signal. I then checked the event log with dates any times of lots of signal recording errors and found most occurred at the same time was the event log being flooded with this drive. 12. Netflix store once and use a lot of bandwidth, this scenario is same bandwidth and if encrypted storing a copy for everyone well am oversimplification. Unless storage gets to be a lot cheaper unlimited is not going to make money. How they ever thought Plex DVR support was a good idea amazed me. This has damaged the Amazon storage name. There are angry Plex users, unmitigated disaster for everyone involved. Whoever is running that Amazon cloud drive circus needs the boot and roll it into Amazon S3 or just kill it. Clearly they can't even take a basic users idea of unlimited. What the hell did they think Plex DVR users were going to do, upload one program a week. I'm thinking anyone who developed for this platform is burning time and good will until Amazon sorts this service out. If there are limited spell them out and make the service reliable or shut up shop. It really is beyond a joke.

  13.  Electrician despite warning him to notify me pulled the plug on My Windows Media Center.

Since then Get event ID 153 The IO operation at logical block address 0x5e8a40 for Disk 7 (PDO name: \Device\00000038) was retried

When Disk 7 is accessed (main Recorded TV Drive) computer was locking and at times scanner would stop updating. You couldn't even shutdown the scanner service it was all locked up.

I forced scan on the drive in scanner and the event logs kept coming. No errors show on scanner for the drive and the SMART data is perfect.

    4TB Seagate drive.

    Asmedia PCI 1061 controller card.

Second drive on that card is working fine.

I have stopped using the drive and the WMC has stopped locking up.

Suggestions on troubleshooting thanks and why would scanner stop responding and not recover or even allow the scanner service to shutdown but eventually explorer would recover unless it go very bad and I had reboot.

Can a hard drive be faulty but scanner reports it is fine?

I had a lot of trouble finding a driver for the card that worked without errors 8 weeks ago and saw this in the logs until I got a driver that worked. It has the same controller chip onboard along with intel on the motherboard. The computer originaly detected the card and used the same drier as the onboard controller http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme6/

The error logs for this go back to the time the computer was rebooted. I find this error for two other drives but back in time months ago on different controller and not a lot of them.
