  1. The main reason for mirror splitting is "to save goat and cabbage": letting my wife&son accessing movies and cartoons "the old way", while taking my time for rearranging them in a way that Plex will eventually like. Your phrase "Specifically, if you remove one of the disks, it will mark the pool as read only until you remove the missing disk" should be read as "Specifically, if you remove one of the disks, it will mark the pool as read only until you reattach the missing disk", isnt'it? Thanks
  2. Hello everybody. Here comes another (maybe) silly question from Italy Basically, I need to temporarily split mirror, leaving one disk to serve contents until I have finished to rearrange them. I'd like to start using Plex (it's a little picky about naming conventions), but during name / structure reconfiguration I need that one side of the mirror stays on place, to serve contents "the old way". I'd like to transfer the split side of the mirror to another PC with Drivepool software installed, perform whatever operation is needed, and reconnect the drive to the original location to have the mirror synchronized "the right way". Is it possible at all? Any suggestion about the right procedure? Thanks in advance. Best regards.
  3. Thanks a lot, I'm giving this setup a try before putting it "in production" (the "try" is only for getting myself familiarized with the whole "NTFS folder" thing).
  4. Got it, thanks! So I can proceed this way, to get rid of unnecessary drive letters: Mount physical drives under c:\usb1 and c:\usb2 Mount pool under c:\pool Move "my pictures", "my music" and so on under c:\pool (for the autologged user) Is it correct? Thanks again in advance!
  5. Hi all, Drivepool newbie here. I've just bought single license for my Win7pro HTPC, now I'd like to upgrade it to Windows 10. Given that I intend to: perform the upgrade to obtain the retail Win 10 key associated to my hardware perform a clean Windows 10 install afterwards, over the same hardware May I simply reuse my Drivepool ActivationID? I'd like to configure Win10 to perform an autologon with a local user and I'd like to mount Drivepool volume under the c:\Users\myshinylocaluser\ NTFS folder, in order to have My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos, My Music, Desktop, Downloads, Google Drive, and so on transparently mirrored thru Drivepool's features: is it possible/how should I proceed? I've already populated the Drivepool with pictures, movies and so on, but they are located under folders whose names doesn't conflict with the standard Windows folders: I'll transfer the existing data to standard folders after the mounts. Thanks in advance Best regards
  6. Thanks Christopher. I've just bought an i3-550 4Gb RAM 500Gb HD HP Pro 8100 SFF machine, that will be connected to the pair of (externally powered) Drivepool-managed USB drives. The machine will sit there "sleeping" for the majority of time, being awaken only for (a few of) scheduled recordings, personal video/picture import or for our viewing pleasure, so I'm quite confident that "disconnect incidents" will be rare. Am I wrong? Slightly wrong or terribly wrong? I'll report on the building of my "nas-of-all-trades", however Thanks again
  7. Hi all. I've got (out of a drawer, covered by dust) an Acer Aspire One A110 netbook (the one with terrible SSD performance, BTW). I wonder if I can hook it to Ethernet cable and two USB drives, load Drivepool on it (RAID1) and use it as a poor man's NAS (via Windows 7 mediacenter - homegroup functionality). Anyone dared something like this in the past? I'd like to try because of the very low power consumption of this "thing"....
  8. Thanks to everybody. Ok for the upgrade, can this be done "onlineĀ° or should I uninstall the stable version first? I will: upgrade the software to beta add 2nd 2Tb drive to the system, leaving it outside the pool use 2nd 2Tb drive for backup purposes perform the actions described in "Seeding Guide" against the 2Tb drive already "pooled" verify pooled data on 1st 2Tb disk format 2nd 2Tb disk add it to the pool set desired replication level for specific directories inside the pool
  9. Hi all, Italian Drivepool newbie here. Windows 10 Pro x64, Drivepool 2.1.1.561 stable x64 (should I "upgrade" to Beta version, BTW?) 2Tb USB drive with 700Gb occupied, another 2Tb drive should arrive soon (I really need mirror!). I've just added the first 2Tb drive (disk G: from now on) to the pool with default options (drive F: from now on). Now disk F: is empty, should I simply cut&paste files from G: to F:? When the 2nd 2Tb drive will arrive, I'll add it to the pool and start setting top-level folders duplication policy as needed, isnt'it? Thanks a lot in advance from cloudy&rainy Italy Best regards
