Just be careful.  A low power CPU is, well ,low powered.  You may have issues with transcoding still.  Or multiple streams.
You'd want to direct stream, as much as possible.
  2. Thanks

Okay, glad to hear it, then!

I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of this beforehand.  it's easier to change specs before you buy and build the system!

Good points but this CPU should be more than what I'll use it for.  khr2011 is showing stats for Emby and this CPU.  "I tried Emby with different videos on the same DS918+ and it transcodes 10bit 4k HEVC 60Mbps to 1080p h264 30Mbps perfectly with 25% processor usage"
    https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/296528/ds418play-hardware-transcoding.
It will mostly be a DLNA music server, file server and a backup end point with the occasional transcode of 1080p to our Ruko in the bedroom. .   The FireTV direct streams everything I have.

I replaced crashplan with Spideroak. Cost is a bit more but I just pointed it at the folders in my Pool and it didn't duplicate or miss any data.  I have their 1Tb plan.
I tried the service ice crashplan points you to but it was too restrictive. I created my own key with Spideroak and it just works.

I'm designing a replacement for my current server.  Goals are modest. Less heat and power draw than my existing server. Roles are  file server with drivepool, emby for media with very light encoding needs.  Local backups are with Macroum Reflect. Off site backups with Spideroak.  OS will be win 10 Pro.
    My current rig is here:

    Boot: PNY 120GB SSD
    Data Pool: 4 x 2TB WD Red
Backup Pool: 1x5TB Seagate (Shelled USB drive)
When this is built my old rig goes up for sale.
My only thought is on the CPU. Could I go with a dual core Celeron for  about 80 bucks?  Will it handle a single encoding stream and not draw more power than the i3T? The Celeron will do fine as a file server.

I limit my BOINC to 20% of my CPU to minimize heat and power consumption.  So far, no Emby crashes.

Thanks Chris, I'll give this a try and upload logs/etc if the issue repeats itself and flag this thread appropriately if resolved.

    That's ... very odd.
There were a few issues related to this, but it should be fixed in the beta.

That said, delete the hidden "PoolPart.xxxxx" folders on the D:\ and E:\ drives.  And then restart the system, or run "services.msc" and restart the "StableBit DrivePool Service".  This should fix the "cannot add drives" issue.

If this continues, could you grab the 2.2.0.740 beta build?
    http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolWindows/beta/download/StableBit.DrivePool_2.2.0.740_x64_BETA.exe

And enable logging, and reproduce the "create new pool" option?
    http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_2.x_Log_Collection

    And run this:

New install of Beta .651 on Windows 10. Only rebooted once not twice.    Didn't have a new pool button, just an option to add drives so I clicked on the  + Add link for the D: drive, it hung at 95%.  When the pool was never created I cancelled the creation, then tried with the E: Drive.  This sat at 95%, then it appeared the pool creation canceled on it's own.  I have no pool and I cannot add the D: or E: drives as they error out saying they are in the pool already.   I found the article that I need to reboot 2x for Windows 10 after I tried creating the pool.

How do I remove the pool that exists but I cannot see and start over?

[Edit] - I have rebooted 2x and no change in behavior.

Unless you need the extra features of server, win10 pro should do you fine. Mine runs 24x7 without any issues. Drive pool, scanner, emby, crashplan, VMware workstation. It just runs.

I have remote management enabled on my server.   I installed Stablebit on my laptop, chose a 30 trail license and when I click the pulldown for what machine to manage my server does not show up.   I perform the same action from my server and it does not see my laptop which also has remote management enabled.  No 3rd party firewall involved and I verified there is a rule in the windows firewall for Stablebit.  Should I have used my actual license?  I was under the impression remote management didn't require a license at all.    Both machines are running 2.2.0.651 BETA

Starwind has a free iscsi host that works well under Windows 10 if you don't have access to Server

I've been eyeballing the LSI/Avago SAS9211-8i and it still requires a flash to IT mode to use a plan HBA card, per KSI/Avago documentation.

MetalGeek got a reaction from Christopher (Drashna) in Replacing my Synology NAS
I'v decided to take the KISS principle with this migration. Focus on the desired results and not solve prolbems that don't yet exist.  To accomplish that I'm going to start with my Win10 Pro box, strip out everything except teh "server" and feature software:
Stablebit + Drive Scanner Snapraid for Disc Rot protection Crashplan Marcrium Reflect Emby BOINC/Virtualbox (Project Atlas uses tiny headless VMs) Bitdefender AV As long as the box is stable 24x7, I'll leave it as is.  If something becomes unstable, I'll address it as they come.  I can always split out something to a VM later on.   I've migrated all desktop activites do a laptop so checking email, research, CD ripping all happens there now.   I've go my rial license up so I can get things going and when payday hits next week I'll register and go from there.  Now I need to RTFM to sort out my Pools, folder duplication and SnapRAID considerations.

Thanks for the nput Chris, it helps me sort out ideas by chatting with someone.  I engineer by talking aloud.

MetalGeek reacted to Christopher (Drashna) in FAQ - Parity and Duplication and DrivePool
There are a number of other solutions for gaining parity with DrivePool.
These are not supported, nor endorsed by us (CoveCube). However, there are a number of members that have used them with StableBit DrivePool successfully.

For quick reference, the solutions are FlexRAID and SnapRAID. There may be others, but these are the ones mentioned here.  And here are the links for discussions about these products: http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/94-drivepool-and-snapraid/ http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/110-whs-2011-with-drivepool-and-scanner-with-flexraid-parity-protection/?hl=parity http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/137-flexraids-new-traid-and-drive-pool/?view=findpost&p=833&hl=parity http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/49-feature-request-parity-support/?hl=parity

Considering the huge list of bug fixes between the Release version (2.1.1.561) and the Public Beta (2.2.0.651), this doesn't surprise me.

I know there was some locking and performance fixes in there as well.

So if the beta is working much better, I'm very glad to hear that.
If you're still having issues or have any other issues, do let us know (and what OS you're using specifically)
