  1. ok thanks. saw it in the wiki and tried it. i have "StableBit.DrivePool_2.1.1.561_x64_Release" installed. will wait till next full release. any time frame?
  2. Hi, I noticed my antivirus and Windows 10 is showing the pool as removable. I did a fresh install of Windows 10, and i dont remember what it was showing as on windows 7. Using the wiki, i did create a file copy called "DrivePool.Service.exe.config" and added in this value, which said was default anyways: <setting name="CoveFs_IsDiskRemovable" serializeAs="String"> <value>False</value> </setting> However, it still shows as removable. Does it really matter if its removable or not? I would prefer it was not showing as removable USB storage. This is 8 hard drives running off an IBM M1015 with IT mode firmware. I dont install anything to it, but do backup to it and may install from it. I am still learning Windows 10 and wasnt sure if it is windows or the default M1015 driver Windows installed. Thanks.
  3. a crazy question. what happens if i leave the pooling service off? What if I just want the files in the all PoolPart.xxx folders in each drive appear as 1 drive, and dont want to use the balancing and duplication features? that way i can manage files in the pool, or in the individual drives without worrying about anything going wrong? not sure if this was possible just within windows 7 itself.
  4. ok just found about seeding drives. now looking into mounted drives and snapraid also. may leave the drive letters there anyway. I assume I should never add/remove/move files around in the individual drives PoolPart.xxx folders with the service running and if not resetting the pool settings?
  5. Hi, I have 8 hard drives. I was using FlexRaid with 6 drives as DRUs and 2 as PPUs. All DRUs have data on it, mostly half full, and was using FlexRaid pooling. I have moved away from FlexRaid and will go with Stablebit Scanner and DrivePool with SnapRaid. Before running SnapRaid, I want to setup the DrivePool. In FlexRaid pooling, one drive letter would appear showing all files from the 6 drives and the drives letter unmounted using NTFS folders. It was easier to just map 1 drive letter in XBMC or for network shares. I created my base folder before pooling so that I could have new files go into those folders and on to specific drives, which seems to work for the most part. How does this work with DrivePool? I created the pool, but the pool is empty, which I read would happen. The drives also remain individually so that I can read and manage the existing data. I also disable balancing to keep the files where they are for the most part. If you have data, is the pool on a go forward basis only and mostly for duplication functions? How can I make it work like I had with FlexRaid? Do I move the files from the individual drives to the pool, eventually emptying my individual drives? Do i then forget about balancing or not and DrivePool will decide everything? Can i unmount drive letters from the individual drives after the pool is created or should it be done before. If I need to completely rethink pooling to a new way, how do people use it here?
  6. The case is a fractal designs R4 and sits next to the HTPC. One day, 6 year old son leaning on it says the case feels hot. The R4 has a switch for fan speed and so fans are connected to that, hence no monitoring. The power cable must have disconnected or switch gone bad and turned off the front 2 intakes and the rear exhaust, all 140mm fans. CPU and GPU fans running but no exhausting, hence 8 Seagate hard drives baking nicely. Yes, woried about the 5 remaining seagates knowing the temps went that high, way above what you would like. I replaced 3 of them with 1 more seagate and 2 hgst over the last week. Formatting (not quick) the hgst also reached 114F creating a stablebit warning. I let them finish with an external fan blowing into the open case keeping them at 91, but otherwise the server is staying off. Tonight, will rotate the drive cages 90 degrees to help with front to back airflow and see if i can keep the temps low. the cage was mounted sideays to make use of the cable hiding area on the case. may have to sacrifice neat cabling for better airflow.
  7. perfect. got it. thanks. seagate smart showed 138 lifetime max temp. oops. did have case fans lose power one time with PC staying on. with stablebit monitoring and alerts, should be no issue now.
  8. Hi, Just got Stablebit Scanner and Drive Pool for my Windows 7 x64 HTPC/Server. I have 8 HDD connected to my IBM M1015. I have 6 Seagate 7200.14 and 2 HGST 4TB Desktop NAS. Yes, the seagate are failing en masse...was such a big supporter of them. I get SMART readings on Scanner when connected to the motherboard, a ASROCK z87 motherboard. However, through the M1015, Scanner says "The on-disk S.M.A.R.T. check is not accessible. Drive temperature and mechanical operating parameters are not available and will not be monitored" The drive itself scans and can report bad sector errors. How can I get SMART to work? The M1015 is flashed to IT mode on firmware version 20. The bios was removed as I dont use any built in RAID features. I as using FlexRaid but will most likely go with drive pool duplication or SnapRaid. I read something about UnsafeIO setting on these forums to get SMART to work. Does that mean I have to install the M1015 bios and some software? Any help would be appreciated.
