  1. Hi I would do a safe removal of the drive selecting only to copy non duplicated data then do a full format of the drive then let scanner at it before u add it back to pool bad sectors don't mean a drive is knackerd but you may need to force it to remap the damaged ones a full format will do that
  2. The first screen shot with the pie chart says version 2 maybe the installation has got Borked I am sure Chris will help you sort it I have the 1x version and it looks nothing like yours which leads to think its version 2
  3. Hi that looks like version 2x to me check which version you have installed if it is version 2 check your desktop for the drivepool icon the whs 2011 does not have a desktop item.
  4. Ok did a little research think I found what you need I had to reboot after I installed the feature make sure the pool's drive letter is selected under modify. https://www.cloudtec.ch/blog/tech/add-search-indexed-network-share-windows-library.html
  5. It may take time for the indexing to complete on mine it can take upto an hour
  6. Yes didn't know they did any other but I have had it a good few years now
  7. Yes file indexing needs to be on that might be the cause of the lag you have. I haven't used whs2012 r2 so not sure where the setting is to turn it on other op's you could find it by typeing index on the search bar
  8. Hi have you made sure the pool is indexed sometimes it's not. worth checking
  9. Any chance we can get some more setup's on here with pics it's nice to see what people have and is great info for those upgrading.
  10. Lol the old Intel vs AMD debate not even going to get started on that one my own personal preference is AMD but that's my preference. My Input on this conversation was simply that I use the APU and my particular system runs without any problems I can stream 1080p to 7 rooms, play music and download torrents as well transfer data between computers at the same time without any problems but then again I also use WD greens which people say are rubbish but all 20 of mine have been fine some are even reaching the 4 year old mark so all I can say do your research and choose what you can afford.
  11. So both very similar I don't run mine 24hrs a day so mine shuts down around 11pm and come's back on at around 4 pm the next when everybody starts to arrive home so when I last worked it out it cost around £5 a month to run maybe a bit now
  12. Ok so I logged in after I remembered the password lol also the chip is AMD A10 5800k APU Loaded up the Asus EPU software it says the CPU watt was around 33 watts tho this did shoot up and down depending on what I did so loading program's up it went to around 66 watts then back down to around 33 watts lowest was 24 watts after about 5 mins idle. The temperature was a steady 39c went up a few degrees while under load also I went into the APC 2200 UPs and it should only a 12% load can't tell how many watts that is but that seems low that also supply's power to other stuff too Anything you want to know I'll try find out Lee
  13. Hi I upgraded my server from a AMD duel core to the A10 Apu and it runs sweet no problems at all and it's a dam site quicker than the duel core I had. I don't use the complex run of software some of you use I use mini2 playon's 7 of them they play every file ever created lol in fact since I did the upgrade I don't think I have actually even logged into the server since and that's about 7 months ago it's working that well off the top of my head this all I have installed on it Whs Scanner Drivepool Lightsout Ihomeserver Lee If you want I can runs some test's on the server and post some reports if people are interested Hi I upgraded my server from a AMD duel core to the A10 Apu and it runs sweet no problems at all and it's a dam site quicker than the duel core I had. 14. Otis went into more detail than I did I simply choose dvdfab as it was all in one they do have a free trial test both ways see what you like from time to time I use anydvd and tsmuxer as for Ihomeserver I use that also it's great for allowing iTunes to stream music from your server to airplay devices all around the house sonos is also great.
  15. I use DVD fab it will convert from any format to any format there are other programmes but I found that much more simpler. you could also just use torrent download would probably be quicker I had around 800 DVD mixed bluray/standard took about 6 months doing a few a night after work give it a try rip a copy of a film time it torrent download compare the copy's and see which was quicker also torrents will download 24hr's a day
  16. Have you tried clicking recheck/rescan it may update the info
  17. I used to use a corsair 600w but when I fully populated the server total of 27 drives and putting it under stress I.e scanner running, duplication running, streaming 1080p to 7 different rooms, downloading torrents, streaming music to another room. I sufferd power problems 2 of the last drives in the daisy chain kept dropping in and out and as a result I ended up losing 3 drives this was all a result of a power supply. So after spending £400 on 3 new drives I spent another £100 on a 1200watt power supply and have touch wood never even had a blip out of the system since. Over kill maybe but at least I have peace of mind the power is there when needed. Also a single rail of a psu can only supply a limited amount of power so daisy chaining lots of stuff off 1 rail is a risky business now I only have 3 drives per rail instead of 6 or more. Also if the psu developes a fault on 1 rail my loss will be minimal.
  18. Yeah I agree with Chris I went for a 1200w when I built mine I wanted to make there was plenty there if it was ever needed plus a computer only ever uses what it needs so efficiency is not a problem
  19. Hi the parity debate is an old topic many have requested the feature me included. It is a pain to have to use 3rd party software to achieve what most some of us would like hopefully if enough of us ask Alex May one day add it as an option other than that we are stuck useing other software
  20. Hi I have asked a similar question I also had a drive that had a few bad sectors all duplicated of course but scanner seems unable to use the duplicated files to repair or replace damaged files which kind of seems pointless however, if you completely remove the drive then the duplicated files kick in and all is is good. While this is great in case if failure it not helpful on the day to day maintenance of a system the other option we have is to delete the damaged file and replace it with a fresh copy again it's just not what I want or expect they way I see it at the moment while scanner will inform us of things going bad it does nothing in regards to keeping the file database intact FYI file recover has never recoverd a damaged file yet for me I always end up replacing the whole file even tho it is duplicated.
  21. I did it once out of curiosity it did save some space but not a lot but I also ended up with a few corrupt files so I didn't bother after that
  22. Hi I use AcRyan mini2 I have 7 of them and they work brilliant it's so easy rip a DVD to the server pool and a cover art pic then just acces the folder via the AcRyan box and just play so easy to do even my 5 year old has masterd it I am sure Ihomeserver is for headless iTunes I may wrong I very rarely tinker with it now I can go into more depth if you want more info I do believe there are YouTube vids of the boxes there are others but I have never used them so can't comment on how easy they are to use.
  23. Can you put it in another machine then it won't get added to the pool and you can get the file list you want
  24. Hi I had a similar slow down when I had a failing harddrive try removing the drive and see if it clears up your problem if it does you may still be able to save the drive. Bad sectors don't always mean a drive is knackerd but running scanner/chkdsk/scannow doesn't really fix the problem the best way and way I have done it in the past is remove the drive from drivepool using the option to only remove unduplicated files it's the quickest way. Once that's done do a full format of the drive either using windows or a vender utility then run chkdsk and stuff and 99% of the time because the full format writes a zero to a sector the drives auto remap kicks in and the bad sectors gets removed then add the drive back to the pool and let it auto balance I have done the above a few times now and still using drives that would have been binned with no problems.
