<p>I have an system running Windows Server 2012R2.</p>
<p>It has 2 drives on onboard SATA ports (the OS drive, and one more), and 8 drives connected to an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-8i.  Four of the drives on the SAS controller are SATA drives used with DrivePool, and they all work perfectly and get smart data normally (after enabling unsafe IO).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The other 4 are 15k SAS drives used to make a mirrored windows storage space.  These no longer show up as normal disks in windows.  In Stablebit Scanner, it simply shows the name "Microsoft Storage Space Device" on the "Microsoft Storage Spaces Controler".  This is expected.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>What's not expected is the SMART data I see for the storage space device.  Under disk details, it shows the serial number, firmware, rotation speed, port, capability and smart data of the OS drive.  The Smart window for the storage space shows all the data for my OS drive as well.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I'm not sure if storage spaces emulate smart data, or provide some other useful mechanism to check their state - but showing the SMART data from another drive probably isn't a good thing.  It would be better to show no smart data than incorrect data, in my opinion.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Of course, the BEST option would be for it to show the underlying drives...but that may not be possible with windows hiding them.</p>

	I found a few threads that talk about SAS and LSI 9400/9500 compatibility, which apparently causes loss of SMART data.
</p>

<p>
	But I would like to make sure that Scanner will read SMART data from SATA drives when connected to LSI 9400/9500.
</p>

<p>
	Will it be able to passthru the controller, or is that also not compatible?

<p>
	Hi. I have found some old posts from 2017 asking this same question. Has using SAS drives with SMART data been resolved yet in the current version?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks.

	Morning all,
</p>

<p>
	Just swapped out a pair of WD60EFPX's which appear to be readable and work as expected, for a set of 8tb's.
</p>

<p>
	However the WD80EFPX's I get the following error/message in Scanner.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The on-disk S.M.A.R.T. check is not accessible.  Drive temperature and operating parameters are not available and will not be monitored.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Something not playing nicely on the 8tb versions?

	Hi
</p>

<p>
	Just done new build and installed scanner and I am getting the message "The on-disk health checks are not accessible on any of your discs (Only have the OS drive at the moment Samsung 970 NVMe)
</p>

<p>
	I have done a search and tried the advanced setting options (unsafe, NoWmi) but it has made no difference, controller is Intel RST VMD Controller A77F which is part of Intel's Rapid Storage Technology driver
</p>

<p>
	Same drive was reading smart data fine in my old Windows 10 build but obviously with a different controller.
</p>

<p>
	Any ideas how to resolve this as I am yet to add all my other drives for the drivepool and I'm guessing they will have the same issue ?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks
</p>

	I have a brand new Western Digital WD80EAAZ drive (I had two, but one has been RMA'd due to sector errors from day one <span class="ipsEmoji">🙁</span>).
</p>

<p>
	There is no SMART information in Scanner, and the temperature isn't shown, while my NVMe drives show up fine.
</p>

<p>
	The message shown is:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents">
		<p>
			The on-disk S.M.A.R.T. check is not accessible. Drive temperature and operating parameters are not available and will not be monitored.
		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	I have tried toggling the Advanced "Unsafe" Direct IO and the "NoWmi" options, but neither have made a difference (I restarted the service in-between changing the settings, and have rebooted a few times since as well).
</p>

<p>
	I have tried the Direct IO Test program DirectIoTest-1_0_8915_37373.exe, and this appears to work fine, and I can see SMART attributes including Attribute 194 showing 0x20 (32C).
</p>

<p>
	What else can I try to get Scanner to read the SMART attributes of my drive?

	Hello, I found that there is no SMART support for SAS drives, the scanner plugin in DrivePool won't be effective since there is no SMART support, right?
</p>

<p>
	Since many people have asked about SAS drive support, will it be added in the near future?
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	If SAS support is available,I think many people will be willing to buy the addition sas support license

	So DirectIOTest is working, and can read the device through scsipassthrough but fails with ata passthrough and stablebit scanner log says online tells it to use atapassthrough which fails, do you really need me to pull the log where it says to do so?  Anyways, because of atapassthrough failing period, unsafe methods and no wmi do not effect this issue.  From my understanding of how this all works this is something you have to fix on your end and then let me know and then I restart the service?  Controller is a 8 bay syba jbod usb 3.0 beyond that I don't know.

	Long story short, I'm looking to move away from Windows as my server software.
</p>

<p>
	For my new server I plan to use two mini-PCs in a Proxmox cluster. Because I love DrivePool so much (and have 100's of TB of data there), I am wanting to keep it on a dedicated Windows PC as a network share (basically turn it into a NAS appliance) - but I'm wondering/concerned how nice it will play with what will likely be Ubuntu server VMs needing to read/write to it...
</p>

<p>
	I would have the new Proxmox server &amp; the DrivePool NAS connected via at least 5gbps (possibly 10gpbs) network links. All I would need on the "NAS" would be Drivepool &amp; Backblaze. The biggest read draw would be serving Plex content, and the write draw would be some automated downloads.
</p>

<p>
	Is this feasible to do? If so, Any suggestion on what would be the most live, robust, &amp; Linux share compatible Windows version to use to just run DrivePool &amp; Backblaze, let me RDP in (locally) to check on things, and nothing else?
</p>

	Brand new windows install.  drives are sleeping as expected, as they should. <br />
	<br />
	I install stablebit suite and poof, no more sleep once again.  I can literally watch the light on my single external disk in a dock flicker every 5-6 seconds.   what are these guys doing in that timeframe on repeat?<br />
	<br />
	I have a work window set on scanner.   all my drives are already checked/healthy/not due.  I have SMART set to only query during the work window or scanning of which it is neither.   I dont know what else to do.  on my old windows 10 install i entertained the fact it could have been a combination of any number of things i had running in tandem/under the hood  (even though it was unlikely) but now with a fresh install of windows and watching it happen the second i installed these guys......<br />
	<br />
	anyone able to offer some suggestions/guidance?  I'd already throttled the queries out to 12 hours and it didnt help or change anything.  leads me to believe its not the smart, but something else under the hood. <br />
	<br />
	is it even scanner, could it be drivepool itself or clouddrive?

	Hi, I have browsed various threads regarding SMART data not being reported and tried various fixes to no avail. I'm hoping someone from StableBit might be able to help out.<br />
	<br />
	System: Windows 11 Pro<br />
	<br />
	Problem:<br />
	<br />
	Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD connected via USB-C to a Minisforum NPB5.<br />
	<br />
	StableBit Scanner says "The on-disk S.M.A.R.T. check is not accessible"<br />
	<br />
	I have tried the stable version of StableBit Scanner v2.6.4.3981 and also I am currently running the beta of StableBit Scanner v2.6.5.3998<br />
	<br />
	I tried the NoWMI and Unsafe DirectIO options &amp; exit StableBit Scanner &amp; stop/start the StableBit Scanner service in Services then relaunch StableBit Scanner to retest.<br />
	<br />
	I notice in StableBit Scanner that the Samsung T7 shows up as "Samsung PSSD T7 Shield SCSI Disk Device" I wonder if somehow it is being misidentified as a SCSI drive?<br />
	<br />
	CrystalDiskInfo displays the S.M.A.R.T. data for the Samsung T7 Shield perfectly fine.<br />
	<br />
	I see this in the Scanner.Service logs:<br />

	Hi there,
</p>

<p>
	I recently picked up some cheap af SAS3 drives from eBay and tossed them in my server. For some reason, the temps aren't showing up in Scanner, and there's basically no SMART info. I have two other disks, SATA3 disks, running on the same controller and those work fine. Any idea how to fix this?
</p>

<p>
	For reference, my setup:<br />
	- Dell R720XD running Proxmox<br />
	- Windows Server 2022 Standard Desktop VM<br />
	- Controller is an IT-mode H710P mini-mono, passed into the VM via pcie-passthru

	Hi! I recently started using Drivepool and I love it. I wish I knew about it sooner.
</p>

<p>
	I have a serious issue with Scanner though, which prevents me from using it alongside DrivePool. For some reason, when I install Scanner, the system seems to do a lot of work in the backgroud, the scanner UI doesn't come up (starting service stuck for ever) and one by one my disks disappear from explorer and from Windows.
</p>

<p>
	The first time I installed it, it was marking my disks as full of errors, basically it was marking every sector as faulty until eventually the disks dissapeared altogether, not only from Explorer but from Disk Management too. I uninstalled, cleaned residual files and re-installed. The same thing happened on my second and third attempt. Uninstalled, cleaned residual files and ran a disk check on all disks that found no errors (Windows command line and HDD Scan). I had to reboot with Scanner uninstalled for the drives to appear on Disk Management. Then I assigned letters to the drives and decided to go without Scanner.
</p>

<p>
	Scanner wouldn't read SMART data, while Crystal Disk Info and HDD Scan would.
</p>

<p>
	Whenever I tried to restart, while Scanner was installed, I was getting a blue warning screen saying that some programs are preventing the computer from shutting down, specifically: "Task Host Window : Task Host is stopping background tasks. (\Microsoft\Windows\International\Synchronize Language Settings.)" plus one more "button" which showed as an empty button below the Task Host. I had to force shut down by switching off power (image attached).
</p>

<p>
	I would love to be able to run Scanner alongside Drivepool, but I'm afraid to install it again. It's very stressing to see my disks marked completely corrupt and disappear all of a sudden, when there seems to be no issue with them.
</p>

<p>
	I also tried Scanner on my laptop with some other external disks I had lying around and it worked fine. Is it a hardware incompatibility issue? I read in other messages in the forum that you ask for a troubleshooter report, but frankly I'm too afraid to install the programme again so I can generate a report.
</p>

<p>
	My PC runs Windows 10 20H2 Build 19042.685 and my Drive Pool disks are:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		2x USB 3.0 WD My Book 8T (brand new)
	</li>
	<li>
		1X USB 3.0 4TB Intenso Memory Center (~3 years old)

	<li>
		1X eSata 4-bay Fantec enclosure with 4X SEAGATE BARRACUDA ST4000DM004 4T (~3 years old)
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	The rest of the PC specs are as follows:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Gigabyte Z77x UD5H
	</li>
	<li>
		Intel i7 3770k (not overclocked)
	</li>
	<li>
		32GB RAM
	</li>
	<li>
		Nvidia 1070
	</li>
</ul>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Any help would be much appreciated.
</p>

<p>
	Thank you!

	Hey there, I've searched  previous topics about this issue and have tried following the solutions in those but I'm still not able to have any SMART data display for my drives in a Terramaster D5-300C enclosure.
</p>

<p>
	I'm on version 2.6.2.3920 of Scanner running on WIndows 10. I have been using Hard Disk Sentinel and that software has been detecting SMART data for quite some time and I'm no sure as to what else the issues could be. Appreciate any additional guidance to get this fixed.

	Hi everyone,
</p>

<p>
	Using Server 2022 Standard with Stablebit Scanner v2.6.2.392 with a controller card Adaptec 72405 (HBA Mode), I'm missing the Temperature, Performance, DiskQueue, DiskActivity infos.<br />
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="2551" data-ratio="38.81" width="992" alt="image.png.f0015d00b906e1fa01cf3ee0192e54d0.png" src="https://community.covecube.com/uploads/monthly_2022_08/image.png.f0015d00b906e1fa01cf3ee0192e54d0.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Is there a incompatibility between Server 2022 or the Adaptec card, with the Stablebit software.
</p>

<p>
	Best regards

	Hi all,
</p>

<p>
	While Drive Scanner has worked well for me, it's always bugged me that we can't read SMART information when the controller is set to RAID mode - Setting up a RAID-0 stripe on my NVME drives puts the entire controller into RAID mode. CrystalDiskInfo manages this through a plug in that works well, any chance we can get Drive Scanner to work for that for AMD X570, B550 and Intel chipsets?
</p>

<p>
	Or... is there a way to do this that I'm completely missing?

	I cannot get any smart data, hdsentinel, and crystaldiskinfo both have no issue accesing it.  The drives are connected to my x570 elite motherboard and it is in ahci mode.  It used to work until I updated my bios, which killed my licensing for both scanner and drivepool, and basically bricked both programs.
</p>

<p>
	I think I've gotten them back up and running by deleting the settings folders, though I can no longer activate, so at this point I'm pretty close to just uninstalling both in frustration and after having my computer bricked for a day with no support response.
</p>

<p>
	Is there any way to get the smart data back working? i've messed with the advanced settings and nothing seems to do anything noticable, but its also unclear if it takes effect immediately, or if there is some other action required to refresh the app.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks!

	I keep getting a daily warning on a SSD I put in my system. I thought it was related some scheduled tasks on my Plex server at night because I run my VM's off this disk. Upon closer examination I receive the warning and within a minute I receive a second message saying it returned to normal. When I go in the console I never see it above 90F. Even when I did some initial copies of 100GB's or so I never seen the temp rise. Is this some weird issue with this drive or is it normal. Doesn't seem like it is really overheating. This drive doesn't give a graph in the SMART area of the temp over time either.

	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	I have a question, I've tried looking around online but, alas, cannot find the answer.  I've been happily using drivepool for many years and am about to rebuild my server (as it needs more disks and the case is rusting), so I will use this opportunity to make the server better.
</p>

<p>
	Currently I run a single pool with 5 disks between 3 and 4tb each and 5900rpm in speed.  I have bought 2 new 8TB disks which are 7900rpm, and my assumption is that I am better off making them into their own pool so that all their operations run at their own speed, and move some data from the main pool to this new one, and I can gradually replace the disks over the years to all be 7900rpm.
</p>

<p>
	I'm also fitting a 240gig m.2 ssd to go along with the spare 240gig ssd and to start using the ssd  optimiser plugin.
</p>

<p>
	So my question is, am I being silly worrying about making the faster disks into their own pool, should I just stick them in the main pool, and does the approach with the ssd optimiser seem sensible?
</p>

<p>
	Note:  The primary use of the server is Photos, Plex and as a Minecraft server, the Plex DB and Minecraft goes on the C:\ (500gb m.2) and backs up to the pool, the pool is mostly used for reading photos, music and video files, so I don't know if I'm wasting my time with the SSD optimiser if it mostly helps with the writing to the disk..
</p>

<p>
	Thanks
</p>

	I'm ok with that as it's just a scratch drive but scanner is writing errors to the log file every minuite. Is there a way to stop that? <p>
	Sorry if this is a dumb question, but a quick search didn't turn anything up.  Stablebit Scanner detected some bad sectors on one of my old hard drives (THANK YOU STABLEBIT) this morning and I have started shopping replacements.  I'm looking at the Seagate Exos X14 12TB, but one of the Amazon reviews mentions that Seagate drives use some non-standard S.M.A.R.T. reporting values.  Searching Reddit similarly brought up many accounts of people freaking out for no reason for the same problem, Seagate's 48-bit hex S.M.A.R.T. reporting format is different than the industry standard.
</p>

<p>
	I'm using much older Seagates (6 yrs+) with Stablebit Scanner, and infact the failing drive is a Seagate.  So my question is, if I purchase a newer Seagate hard drive, is Scanner going to have any issues reading/reporting correct S.M.A.R.T. information?

<p>
	I just bought several Samsung 2TB 860 EVO SSDs to replace my drivepool HDDs.
</p>

<p>
	- My pool was originally setup with 3 HDDs and 2x duplication.
</p>

<p>
	- I removed one of those HDDs (first from the pool, then from the PC) with no problems.
</p>

<p>
	- I installed 2 of the new SSDs onto the PC, formatted them and verified that Windows 10 Pro sees them fine and can read/write to them.
</p>

<p>
	But... when added one of them to the pool... nothing.  The drive is now on the pool but no data is being stored to it.  Worse, if I try to remove one of the remaining 2 HDDs from the pool I get errors about not being able to write because the file already exists and then it rebalances the data/duplication across the two HDDs.
</p>

<p>
	I already upgraded DrivePool to version 2.2.2.934 (the latest) and I saw no difference.   I then tried to increase the duplication to x3 to force a write to the SSD and it quickly got stuck at "Duplicating... (1.2%)".
</p>

<p>
	EDIT:  Given the stuck condition I attempted to remove the SSD for the time being.  I got an error "Error Removing Drive: The directory name is invalid." and it started duplicating again.  I gave up and went on to do my normal work.  Upon looking at Drivepool again I found it at 9.2% and appears stuck again but I'm not positive.  UPDATE... it is very much stuck.  It is more than an hour later and it is still at 9.2%.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I already opened a ticket with support, but as there are only so many support people... I am hoping that someone in the community might have some hints on how to proceed while I wait for support.
