Hi. Love this program.

Can someone with lots more experience tell me the best way to upgrade a machine currently running drive-pool??

I would like the new machine to use the same data and info I currently have.

I would like to simply plug my HD's into new machine and go from there.

	I am guessing:

	a) buy another license (most likely) [I know I could just use one for less than 30 days] -I'd support the developers for this!!!

	b) bring up new machine with old disks??

	Am I missing something big

	Thanks in advance

	Hello!

I was wondering if it were to be possible to develop a balancer that will help with media servers. If someone has a large collection, currently, new files are parsed between all the drives in an array. If a drive were to die, you would lose random files of many different collections. For example, one or two episodes of 500 TV series.

An ideal balancing would be to store all files of the lowest-level folder together. This way, if you lose a drive, you lose an entire series that could be replaced in batch, rather than piecemeal restoring episodes from a lot higher number of total series.

	Any thoughts?

So, I'm fresh to Drivepool and Drive Scanner, and I run into a few things that I don't understand. I hope someone can explain them to me.

Background: I recently build an AM4 home server, using 8x 4 TB drives (all leftovers, of which some of very questionable heritage, and some are even SMR's, brrr).

 Hardware: AM4 Asus Pro mainboard / Ryzen 5 3500X / Axagon PCES-SA6 / 16 GB RAM / HDD 9x HDD / 1x NVME / 1x SSD

Software: Windows 11 / Drivepool / Drivescanner / HDD Sentinel

Other software on the same machine: SqueezeBox (Lyrion) Server / Plex

I noticed a few things, and perhaps I don't understand how it exactly works.

	1. In the Drivescanner window, it shows how many days ago the last scan took place. I have different periods set for filesystem scans and sector scans. What is exactly shown on that page? The last sector scan, or just any scan activity?

2. When I set in settings 'only perform within this window' it doesn't seem to matter whatever I set as 'unless disk scans are past due by xxx days'. It just never starts scanning, unless I use 'perform work at any time'.

	A bug, or something I don't understand? (Probably the latter 🙂 )

	3. Under throttling I use 'do not interfere' with 'high sensitivity' which is ok. I was just wondering why 'scan using background' would never trigger a scan, even when there's nto a single user or other application (but the generic services) actively accessing any of the drives.

Again, I'm a newby with Drivepool and Drivescanner...

Trying to get my head around this one. Had a drive show SMART failure signs in Scanner. Added a new disk to the pool, removed the failing drive and low and behold, after the data was moved over SMART isnt showing signs of failure. Had Scanner perform a full scan on the drive overnight and it came back without any issues. I am always worried when it comes to SMART failures. I couldnt find a reliable Toshiba based diagnostic tool for my drive, but I am both nervous to add this drive back into the pool but also curious about this particular SMART error. I read through forums and everyone seems to have a different opinion on the error.

It's been a miinute since I've posted here but my server has been running flawlessly for several years. We recently had a house fire & lost everything. So I have purchased a new computer and am trying to recreate my server. Of course this new computer is running Windows 11. With 1 drive added everything is running fine. I can hit the balancing tab to see the balancers and have no errors. But as soon as I add a 2nd drive I get the error when I hit the balancing tab "unable to enumerate folder". Any help would be appreciated. I am running the latest version of Drive Pool.

	Hello,

I have a feature request regarding the email notification function of Stablebit Scanner.

Due to certain circumstances, I am using multiple disks that have SMART warnings. (Please don't worry about the data on these disks, as it's all expendable.) While operating in this environment with Stablebit Scanner, I encounter a significant issue.

The problem is that when Stablebit Scanner detects abnormalities and sends an email notification, it lists all the disks currently with SMART issues.

The issue here is that when I receive an email notification from Stablebit Scanner, I can't determine which disk triggered the notification and which abnormality it detected.

Some disks with SMART warnings may not worsen over time, while others may see their SMART values deteriorate gradually.

With the current email notification system, it's difficult to ascertain this information.

Therefore, I would like the email notifications to include the content of the previous report simultaneously and highlight any changes that have occurred since the last notification.

This would help users in deciding whether they need to replace the HDD promptly or if there's some time before it becomes critical.

	Best regards.

	Hi all,

Having a bit of an issue with Stablebit Scanner V2.5.7.3565. Yesterday I completed a scan on one of drives. When it finished it said last scan was 21 days ago. Today I scanned another drive and it said last scan date was 22 days ago. Needless to say I'm a bit puzzled. Any ideas?

	Win10 Pro x64 2004

Edit - a little more info. Despite the system clock being 22/02/2021 and the scan starting and finishing 22/02, the oldest scanned block is showing as 31/01: https://ibb.co/cwDxKPc

It's as if the program uses a difference clock than that of the system, despite me being unable to see anything in the settings.

	Thanks.

Stablebit Scanner (build 2.6.13.4088) is not showing me SMART data for one of my disk drives. It says "The on-disk SMART check is not accessible. Drive temperature and operating parameters are not available and will not be monitored"

CrystalDiskInfo is able to report SMART data on this disk just fine.

I recently swapped an old drive with this new on in my server's case. Before doing that, I did a forensic sector-by-sector copy with Macrium Reflect from the old drive (which was showing SMART failures from Stablebit Scanner) so that I could drop the new drive seamlessly into my server (which has a Stablebit DrivePool/Snapraid setup).

That all worked flawlessly - Except for not being able to get SMART data for the new drive from Scanner.

The Drive Model is WDC WD100EFGX-68CPLN0 - a WD Red Plus Internal NAS HDD.

In the UI, I can select to sort "By Controller" and the problematic drive is grouped under a Standard SATA AHCI Controller. The other three drives in this same group have no problem with their SMART data being read.

Any help to fix this would he great.

Also is there any recommended settings I should adjust to minimize this happening?

For the last couple months every 2-3 weeks I get an email notification from Scanner saying there was a SMART failure detected and that my Samsung 128gb SSD is expected to fail within 24hrs.. When I log into the server and open Scanner there are no issues with the drive. SMART is predicting no failures, it seems to be operating normally. Is there another test outside of Scanner I could do to see if there are any problems with this drive?

	UPDATE:

This server had two Samsung SSD. The 128gb OS drive that was throwing the occasional SMART warnings and a 256gb that I used as a landing drive. I never received any warnings on the 256gb drive. I pulled the 128gb drive with the issues and replaced it with the 256gb drive. After a couple days I started to get the same SMART warning for the 256gb drive. Could this indicate a problem with the cable or with the actual motherboard? Im going to swap cables for now and if the warning comes back Ill try plugging the drive into a different port on the motherboard.

Healthy pool and add new larger drive and remove older small drives.

The older drives seem to have a folder like PoolPart.a14e8a9a-cab4-4413-81d4-029254f50b28 and some files left over.

When I have a good look it seems the only files left are ones in duplicated folders.

	Is this normal.

My guess when removing drives from a pool if the files are duplicates the drive has non duplicate files in the folder moved to other drives in the pool.

If their is a original file in the pool then the pool accepts moving the file is redundant and just creates a new duplicate file or folder.

This leaves removed drives with a folder and files that were duplicates on the old drive removed from the console.

	Is this correct.

I have over 60 TB of data so its not easy to just check with so many files.

I added two new WD Enterprise Gold Drives recently - one is 16TB and one is 12TB. Both drives have been added to DrivePool successfully and both pass scanning in SB Scanner. However, the 12 TB drive is being reported by Scanner as "The on-disk SMART check is not accessible.", whereas SMART on the 16TB version is read.

I checked with CrystalMark Disk Info and it reads the SMART parameters on both drives fine.

I saw a mention of this issue in another thread and based on that tried checking the NoWMI setting in advanced settings, but that didn't resolve the problem.

38 drives connected to my server. Been scanning non-stop for almost a week now. Was 1 drive away from having scanned every drive for errors, etc.

System hangs, I have to reboot, come back and now Scanner has no record of scanning any of the drives and has started all over.

	Uggh...

A little while ago I did a manual scan, and it took over a day I believe for my 11 TB drive. Now I am looking at the scanner doing the automatic scan and it seems to be going way faster. Is that normal?

Is there a way to force the software to scan no more than a single drive when automatic scanning is enabled?

	Hi Guys,

I am new to this world and recently got the Pool and Scanner. A pool over 3 HDD and 1 NVME have been created. I downloade the scanner and it scanned 1 nvme and found it healthy, then went onto the 1 (out of 3) hdd and found it healthy But the remainder of the last 2 hdd is forever stuck at 15% and 30% (thereabouts). Is there a setting i need to click on ?

	Sorry for the trouble
