asks to migrate license, but issue goes away after Restart?

jsox

Question

I have two licenses for SB Scanner. Both are in use (one on WHS 2011, the other on Win 7 Pro). On my Win 7 Pro PC occasionally the copy of scanner  (build 2.3.2.2885) isn't happy when I start up the user interface. It seems to happen mostly after the machine has been up a while and subject to multiple sleep / awaken cycles. The scanner UI content is whited out with a window floating over it saying that I need to transfer my license... which I should not need to do as it was already entered. So far a Restart always seems to clear up this issue but it worries. So I am reporting it.

Thanks.

That's kind of a weird issue. If i had to guess, I'd say it's a communication issue between the service and the UI (or an issue with the service), due to the sleep mode.

Restarting the StableBit Scanner Service may be enough to clear that as well.

Also, the most recent version of Scanner is 2.4.0.2928 (for Windows 7) and 2.4.0.2929 (for WHS2011).

If you could see about updating, and see if that fixes the issue.

As for seeing what exactly is causing the issue, could you use http://stablebit.com/Contact and attach the "C:\ProgramData\StableBit Scanner\Service\ErrorReports" folder (add it to a zipped folder) to the ticket you submit?

I never got an upgrade notice from the software. I checked and the correct box was checked. Could it be because I have one drive with a SMART warning (6 reallocated sectors)? Hmmm.... In any case I've upgraded manually now and if it happens again I'll try to open a ticket with attachment as requested.

Oh, okay, it is happening repeatedly.

I'm assuming you've "transferred".  Have you tried restarting again after the upgrade?

If so, try resetting the Scanner settings:

You will have to reactivate the license, but it may fix the issue.
