StableBit Scanner and Samsung ST1000LM024 2.5 in hard drive.

Question

I am using a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 ST1000LM024 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive

as a server backup drive under WHS2011 and I get the SMART warning that the drive "Recalibration Retries" has occured.  Since this is the second drive that I have received this warning on (I returned the first drive for replacement when the error counts got to 6).  I am wondering if this just has something to do with Scanner and this model hard drive?  I am not sure I want to send another drive back to Newegg for the same reason and wait another 10 days and see the same problem with a new drive.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

If this setting increases, that's definitely not a good thing.

And no, this has nothing to do with Scanner. All scanner is doing is reading the SMART data, as reported from the drive. What this indicates is that the drive basically had issues powering on. So, like I said, if the count increases... you may want to replace the drive. But if this is the second drive of that model that you've gotten that has the same issue... It may be a good idea to go with a different model.

Also, any reason you're using a laptop drive here for the server backup?

I'm using a Samsung HN-M500MBB 2.5" drive (as the system disk) and my Recalibration Retries is also constantly increasing. It's currently on 529!

The drive is showing no other signs of failure and spent a long time in my HTPC as the TV recording storage disk.
