Upgrade from WHS 2011

Keithb

Question

I have a WHS 2011 installation with DrivePool  & Scanner installed. I have 5 disks in the pool totalling 15TB. I want to upgrade to Windows Server Essentials 2016 using the same hardware. As I understand it, these are the steps:

1) Backup shared folders. (Client Computer Backups can be discarded because they are not compatible with WSE 2016).

2) Deactivate the DrivePool & Scanner licences.

3) Install & configure WSE 2016 as a clean build over WHS 2011.

4)  Reinstall & activate DrivePool & Scanner. DrivePool should recognise the existing pool & folders.

5) Recreate the user accounts using existing passwords.

6) Reallocate share permissions.

7) Reinstall other apps that were on WHS 2011.

8) Uninstall WHS 2011 Connector on Client PCs & install WSE 2016 connector. Use the reg. hack to avoid the need to join domain.

Have I missed anything?

Keith
