Is DFS compatible with drivepool?

denywinarto

Question

I was looking for a solution to get past windows' 26 letter limitation for shortcut then i read about dfs.

Any known problem using both dfs and drivepool?

I read this and was wondered about the bug status now

Also..anyone know if dfs the best way if we want to work with kodi and more than 26 drive letters?

You can mount the drives to a folder in windows and remove the drive letter for you data drives

i have 33 drives in one machine but only four drive letters in use

I'm accessing the library from another machine using Kodi,

I'd thought Kodi can only see driveletters,

i read in their forum it could also read UNC paths, guess gotta give it a try first

DFS doesn't work on the pool.  This is due to a number of reasons.

Specifically, DFS requires advanced file system features such as Quota support and USN Journalling.

These are not supported on the pool, because of how the driver itself works (they're NTFS "objects", much like files, and since no actual files exist "on" the pool...)

I used to do the same. Kodi has no problem with Windows File Shares (SMB/Samba/CIFS).  So you can do that from the pool, without a problem.

And as for the drive letter limitation, DrivePool doesn't actually use them.  So you can remove the drive letters for the pool drives, if you want.
