Moving files (copy/cut/paste) inside the drive

GingerNaTT

Question

Hey,
Was wondering how does it work from software perspective? If i have folder "x" and move it to folder "y" inside my cloud drive, does CloudDrive just re-writes the position of the folder name without moving any chunks? Or is doing something else and it is having a negative impact on the drive performance?

That depends on a lot.  if this is a "smart move", then Windows doesn't move the data around, but insteads just changes where the data is linked to.

You see this all the time when moving data around on the same disk.  When it takes seconds for large files, that's what's happening.  And in theory, this should happen for StableBit CloudDrive as well. And this means that it would upload a small amount of data (the updated file system info), but not a massive amount of data for all the files.
