Using Cloud Drive with Private Internet Access VPN

bequbed

Question

Hi there,

Just bought cloud drive software after trialing it for a month. It works perfectly fine for my use.

However as of yesterday, I also purchased PIA VPN subscription to keep my downloads encrypted.

The issue that I am facing currently is that when the VPN connection is on, the cloud drive unmounts itself after a while and I have to manually mount the drive again. This behavior is only seen when VPN connection is on.

Any suggestions to overcome this perhaps?

Just FYI: The drives are already encrypted/obfuscated. I can imagine that multiple people might be using the same VPN/IP as yourself thus causing enough throttling to cause an unmount, this is just guesswork.

I am using PIA VPN mainly for using torrents...

With regards to PIA interfering with CloudDrive, I've never had an issues. I make sure to only connect/disconnect from PIA vpn when my CloudDrive is fully synced (not uploading, not downloading). I've managed to use PIA for a few days on end, and I've connected/disconnected quite a few times and never had any issue.

If this is only happening with the VPN, then it's likely that the VPN server isn't able to handle the high load and is causing the connections to error out.

Try lowing the number of threads that the drive is using (Drive Options -> Performance -> I/O Performance).

If that doesn't help, let me know.

It's possible your cloud storage provider is dropping the connection because they see it coming from an annonymous/proxy IP range which is seen as an attack vector. I used PIA for 2 years and it never had a problem saturating my 50/10 cable connection. I connected via my router though. I stopped using it because I was bypassing more and more due to every day websits blocking the IP of VPN services. It sucks but hackers are asshole who use VPN services.
