Drivepool Client Only?

britcowboy

Question

Hi,

I'm setting up a new NAS which I think will use Drivepool. I want to install Drivepool on my client machine for the sole purpose of connecting to this NAS and controlling the pool - do I need another license to do this, because it'll be acting as a client only, I have no intention of creating a drivepool on my client machine.

Thanks

CyberSkulls is correct.

A license is only needed if you want to run a pool on the system.  Otherwise, the remote control aspect works REGARDLESS of the licensing status of the client system.

This blog post goes over the feature in depth:

But here is the important bit:

Licensing is pretty straightforward with remote control.

In order to create a pool on a computer, you will need to activate a license on the computer that the pool is being created on.

But if you just want to use a copy of StableBit DrivePool exclusively for remote controlling other machines on your LAN, then that copy doesn’t require activation.
